I went into this thinking that it was a remake of the original movie. Because of this, I was fairly disappointed with the diverging storylines. After finally realizing that it was indeed a sequel, I felt a little better. However, the ending still felt unsatisfying. The beginning focused very much on developing the characters and their magic, but the fight at the end was weak. The villain was beaten within only 15 minutes of finding out they were, in fact, evil, as some earlier moments vaguely hinted at. It was the whole ‘yay, the magic of friendship prevails once again’ type of situation. It left a lot of questions unanswered and a lot to be desired.
On a more positive note, I did admire the relationships made along the way and the problems this movie addressed. The ending of The Craft (1996) was a satisfactory conclusion to that individual story, but it was interesting to see how one of the original characters’ fates panned out in the sequel. However, it wasn’t necessary.
Overall, I felt like it was a mediocre movie. Not all of it was terrible, but it’s far from memorable.
