Let me get this straight. The premise of Alone is to recruit and gather a group of outdoor toughies, ship them off to unspoiled wild lands somewhere, isolate them and then wait for them to injure themselves starve or emotionally unravel... all on tape. Along the way, the participants tear up the landscape and strip their surroundings of most every living organism they can get their hands on and into their mouths.
Are any of these people indigenous to the areas they invade? Are they going to take home and make use of the biota they have extracted from the land? Is this true subsistence living or is it that these squatters are only there to chase a paycheck, build a reputation, impress their families, find God, or whatever justification is presented.
Are not the flora and fauna they decimate an integral part of an intact, self-sustaining ecosystem? Does assaulting everything from mega-fauna to ants, shellfish to grubs, seed pods to root systems make any ethical sense?
Nothing about this is defensible. The participants should know better.
