For me the overwhelming power of this movie is the excellence in the photography and editing. I am also struck with their efforts to represent what farming life was like in the time of these events and the care to promote the stunning beauty of shooting locations.
Because I am an old (literally) Bergman fan, this movie brings me back to the times when I considered cinematography as a life path after watching the Bergman films. I am sure that if I had followed that life path, this is the type of movie (though probably a different story} I would have gravitated to, It is a special movie to me and receives a 5 star rating.
Be patient with its length because the overall impact is powerful.
