(Caught somewhere in time)
Back in 2010 when I was only 12 years old, I saw the final episode of 'That Mitchel and Webb look' and those who remember the, 'Old man Holmes' sketch may remember too that ending an episode on such a bleak and sombre note is 1 thing. To end a series in such a manner is quite a profound thing to do. From, 'Are we the baddies?' to not seing past the fog Mitchel and Webb had put on an impressive display.
After watching episode 1 of their revival series in 2025 I was left feeling something burning in the back of my mind because I had fond memories of Mitchel and Webb Look Season 4 back in 10' and it is this...
Mitchel and Webb are not helping could have been written in 2010 or 2011 for that matter and honestly, it probably would have served as the point to stop and call it a day. 'MAWL' ended at exactly the right moment whereas 'MAWAH' feels caught in bubble of time where it's the same style of writing and humour but it's not 2010 any more, it's 2025 and I don't think time had done this series any favours and it's less than 2 weeks old.
This is especially the case when you get to the second episode where for those familiar with Mitchel and Webb's style do soon to pick up on where certain skits are going. This is a disaster for any comedy sketch show but for Mitchel and Webb it is a serious blow to their reputations. As soon as you eradicate the element of unpredictability in comedy, I struggle at times to bring myself to laugh throughout the second episode and I certainly hope the rest of the series is nowhere near as flat.
Case in point, 'Sweary Aussie Drama'
"Oh look, it's funny because they are Austrailian and they swear a lot!"
It's a one joke pony like Clive from Harry and Paul (A curious low for such an iconic duo I may add btw)
For all the hype, all the fizz and all the glitz and glam, sadly this is just another case of all that glitters is certainly not gold.
