ok so it wasn't terrible just average. I literally read the entire book today and then spent $29 to watch the movie. I just felt like so much from the book was missing.
Anyway, overall the basic story line was obviously there and I was curious to see what they could fit into 2 hours from the book. The characters just felt boring and I didn't feel any connection to them as what you do in the book. There was no character development whatsoever, they skipped so many important things in the movie, there was no in-depth story to it when he was physically hurting her and it was all just brushed and she just seemed to forgive him in a heartbeat whereas in the movies she hesitant and they have a conversation about their communication when it comes to things that make each other angry and leads to blow outs (which is important) Yes I get in a book you can get more in-depth with a persons thoughts when its from the first person perspective but it felt as if she brushed it all off in the movie like it was nothing. They didn't include anything to do with the diary she kept in her teenage years which I felt was one of the most vital pieces to the story (im surprised they even included the flash backs at all) The restaurant name being changed, and so many things don't happen in order to what happens in the book (like them getting married after the birth or their niece which in the book happens before, not a massive biggie but an example) And going back to them leaving out the diary. That last scene where she finally leaves him, he was supposed to find the magnet that atlas had given her before he left for the military when they were younger and he was supposed to find all of the diaries that she wrote about him, which in turn makes him have that final lash out moment causing lily to finally leave him. He was meant to move to England for 3 months for study, none of that in the movie, to come back and finally find out she is pregnant and tries to gain her trust that he can be their for their baby even if she decides she doesn't want to be with him anymore (which obviously in the end she says she wants a divorce) Also im happy that they put somewhat of the epilogue into the movie (again surprised they included that as well) however it was disappointing. It was kinda just like "oh hey how ya been" "yeah great" and just smiles at each other for 30 seconds WHERES THE PASSION!!!!!!!!!! Im not a reader of romance but I was told to watch the movie but I had to read the book first and im glad that I did in a way (even though it was disappointing) Anyway, I know I said a lot of bad things about the movie but if you hadn't read the book im sure it would have been a good movie for you but I definitely insist on reading the book because there is a lot of unanswered questions and goes more in depth and there's so many characters that got left out.
