An overly drawn out origin story
The cast was full of capable actors. They portrayed the characters well. Even if the plot was overall disappointing.
The main character Riri had so much potential to be interesting, but ended up being immature, reckless, and selfish. That might have been more palatable if she showed any sign of character development, but alas we were left with the same character we started with (unlike the Tony Stark who inspired her suit). The writers tried to guise her as a hurting lost soul, but it didn't translate well or lend depth.
Her best friend ended up overshadowing her as the more likeable character.
I recognize that magic plays a big part in the MCU, but it was my least favorite part of the whole series.
The cape felt silly and childish.
The other magic scenes were awkward and creepy.
The episodes did make me want to see what happened, but each episode also left me disappointed.
Most significant takeaway which I genuinely appreciated.
You can't make your life about you or what you desire. That has a cost and it will destroy you.
We love our heroes not because they are perfect but because they sacrifice and give to others. Maybe Riris story will end that way. Either way I could have used one backstory episode to do that.
