I will be so honest, I cannot understand the hate this game gets, yes I understand some of the conversations and moments in the game try to be a bit too inclusive, but that's so minor, the combat, main and side quests, character development and the INSANELY difficult choices, and it's such an experience, I just finished playing it and I'd say it's easily one of the most memorable games, it made me laugh, and it almost made me cry, if you're willing to give it a go, I 100% recommend it, it's absolutely amazing.
