I agree with all the folks who feel that Broadchurch is waaaaaay better than this. David Tennant is fantastic in Broadchurch but not in this. He attempts to play the same character, in the same way, but he can’t quite pull it off. It’s the accent! He’s trying to stifle his nature British (Scottish?) accent and make it American. It doesn’t work! And the Broadchurch version of Ellie is soooo much better than “Skyler’s” (haha) version. Anna Gunn is great in Breaking Bad, but not here. The Broadchurch version of Ellie (played by Olivia Colman) is totally believable as a sweet, but extremely naive police detective who thought she was coming back from vacation to a new leadership role at work - only to find that they gave the job to someone else! I felt for her so much in that moment - and moving forward into the show. Olivia Colman plays a conflicted Ellie - these are her friends! But this is her job… And she has to work with the guy who took her job - and he continually criticizes her style of police work as they conduct their investigation. It's maddening! The way Olivia Colman and David Tennant play off of each other is brilliant - you really feel "in it" and you connect with both characters. This version feels like a made-for-TV movie. Actually, it's reminiscent of an old episode of 'Murder She Wrote' - cheesy and overdone. I would rather rewatch Broadchurch over and over again than suffer through this version, sadly.
