An avid film buff, screenwriter, lover of good story, 'Instellar's' audio was soo disappointing: RIDICLOUSLY! loud, and by the end, physically painful. Poorly imbalanced throughout, had to cover ears most of the film just to watch, missing much of the dialogue.
Definitely wouldn't pay to watch this film (a theater viewing would have been horrendous). And unless you can watch it on a TV with audio modulation choices to tone the music down/out, rebalance the audio, I wouldn't: it's nearly unbearable viewing.
The 2 stars are for the story - wish the audio people hadn't overstepped, overrode the story in their zeal for their work. Could have achieved their goals much better without trying to take centerstage.
Cardinal rule in filmmaking: ALWAYS consider your audience first, above any *great* ideas you may have. Imho this audio is an embarrassment to the audio industry.
