How is it possible that such a wonderful story and good cast, plus all the money it took to make this, ended up a heap of absolute cow manure???
The mangling of the original story was impenetrable. The effects were like Dr Who in the 1960s. It seemed to consist only of people staring in horror and running away screaming- followed by thoughtful anguished stares into the camera by the heroine. I could not follow their version of the story- but it was not the book I read in my teens.
I still think the 1953 film captures the story better than any other film I’ve seen. I think Jeff Wayne’s version is wonderful- but only the version with Richard Burton in it. Avoid the one with Liam Neeson in it. If anything- it is every bit as bad as this one. What a waste of talent, money and a classic novel. smh
