Absolutely remarkable film.
I’m Still Here is a movie that greatly represents my country. Especially in a time where Brazilians were being oppressed significantly like the 70s. It highlights the horrors of the Brazilian dictatorship in an impeccable form. Fernanda Torres and Selton Mello greatly represented their roles in the Paiva family. And oh my Fernanda’s performance is super Oscar-worthy, a captivating, eye-watering performance that deserves all the acclaim it has received. The direction is also absolutely fantastic and it seems as if we really know this family!
The film has been recently nominated in three categories at the Academy Awards (Best picture, Best international film and Best Actress) this came in a period of time that the film was already gaining renowned popularity and acclaim due to Fernanda Torres’ Golden Globe which was absolutely deserved. This may be found biased but as a Brazilian this film is totally Oscar-worthy! and should continue to be praised for all the work, acting and it’s beautiful qualities.
Overall, a perfect reflection of Brazilian history! A perfect film to represent Brazil and to demonstrate Brazilian cinema to the world.
