I admit I got into the show from a YouTube compilation of Cosmo and Wanda being a cute couple, but the show was something I enjoyed beyond them.
I adore Hazel as a character and her dynamic and interactions with the other characters were charming and she had experiences that were something I also shared, like overthinking or feeling insecure. I really love how the show allowed Cosmo and Wanda to have a healthier (and more lovey-dovey) couple dynamic where they work together to help Hazel solve her problem-of-the-week. I also like the addition of Peri (formerly Poof) and his dynamic with his parents. They also occasionally have cameos of characters from the original show which was fun to see. The story is also a bit more plot based with occasional filler episodes.
I don’t really want to compare the show to the previous shows in the franchise, but a lot of people are bringing up the original fairy odd parents with Timmy Turner and tearing this show down because of its new approach with new characters.
But I find Hazel to be a more compelling and enjoyable to watch character that can lead as a good example to kids who watch the show. I also didn’t really like Timmy that much as a character because he could be really self centered. I also feel like this show isn’t geared a certain way, I remember the original being really boy-centric. In the original, Wanda and Cosmo’s relationship felt strained and toxic but in this show they really love each other.
It’s also not hard to watch the show as someone who isn’t a kid anymore. Some other kid shows can be kind of hard to watch from the character’s negative and weird personality or second hand embarrassment, but in this show it was entertaining to watch Hazel and the fairies antics.
