Canon is canon. Don’t mess with nostalgia. That’s what this is about. Go read the comments on any fanfic that doesn’t explicitly mention it strays from canon, they’re all very similar. This is not political, I’m queer myself, this is about big corps thinking that their loyal fans will take any crumb of poorly planned “representation” or characters who look and sound totally different than the ones we know and love. We know buzz, we know his universe, we’ve seen not only the movies but the cartoon series and previous spin-offs. This is not how you win the hearts of the fans who put buzz on the map to begin with. I would not have been compelled to rate or comment on this movie had the creator not trashed us for being loyal to the franchise practically since birth. We don’t want reworked old characters, we want the same old characters or new, unique original characters. Do better, this movie only proves the people who say “go woke go broke” correct. It’s with a heavy heart I now look at my prized buzz, woody and jesse figurines that have been with me for 18 years, knowing I’m seen as a bigot by a creator who doesn’t think beloved characters deserve respect. Don’t mess with nostalgia, don’t mess with our childhoods.
