They will be spoilers so click off now if u dont wanna read it. I really enjoyed the begin of the book but felt as it progressed it kinda just lacked something. It needed a “aha” moment. This character is obbessed with finding happiness comparing herself to others thinking if shes good enough questioning the world around her and how race plays a part in that. And if she even wants her baby or to get married and while she comes to some conclusions it feels like nothing that was a life changing decision in her life was actually her choice besides maybe quitting her job. Idk it felt lack luster i wanted her to give her genuine opinion even if it wasn’t a positive one of her outlook. She was always skeptical and ready to question things and after her baby was finally safe it just felt like she gave up. No conclusion. Is she happy with her boyfriend as she finally excepted her role of mother? Is she jealous of her boyfriend and how the baby interacts with him? Where is the conclusion where is her making peace with the world or not? the book just ends with a poorly written analogy, comparing her life to the parallel of a washed up whale on the shore beach, and maybe the fact that despite the Whale almost facing death that she can still keep swimming. Despite that I enjoyed the character thoroughly and I loved her commentary throughout the book. It felt like a real person and somebody I can relate to.
