The book was a good solid read and quite the interesting take on the subject, and the film does service to the point it is meant to reach. I'd like to share a quote from the book by the Author for those who are incensed by this depiction of history.
"This is NOT a history book.
This is a book about the here and now.
A book to help us better understand why we are where we are.
A book about race." - Ibram X. Kendi 2020
Also, the take that "Black People" have it made in America and are crying about things that happened hundreds of years ago is wild to me like the civil rights movement didn't only come to an end 55 years ago. But what also happened 55 years ago? The murder of Martin Luther King Jr.
Or like Emmett Till wasn't brutally murdered 68 years ago.
Or we can completely glace over that it was only 6 years ago that Carolyn Bryant (the woman that got Emmett killed) admitted her story was not true.
If pandering a real thing in this world? Of course, it is. But sitting here and crying "woke" because the lived experiences of an entire race of people makes you uncomfortable, then sorry, but you're the problem.
I won't generalize, but if you're a person that feels personally offended by the expression of the oppression an entire race has faced to this day, ask yourself why you feel so attacked?
Like, we know know you weren't there. We know you didn't do slavery. 9/10 people of color aren't asking you to be sorry, we're asking you to be part of the solution in making sure these things do not happen again.
But it's obvious by some of these comments that some of us aren't ready for that conversation yet.
