This movie is trash. These people take themselves and their feeling about President Trump way too seriously and demonstrate their pseudo-intellectual superiority over the provincials who just want to make a living and not see their jobs shipped overseas. This movie showcases non-elite people (teachers, nurses, unemployed actors) who think they are special because they can think on things really hard to the point where they make no sense at all. The very best I could say about this film is that it’s a great (albeit unintentional) satire on what ‘elite’ really means these days. The callow jealousy of a schoolmate, the wretched inferiority of someone who worships NPR and NYT, their fragile worlds destroyed not by a man but by the notion that intellect alone is not necessarily the yardstick of civilization. And the notion that a leader doesn’t need to overthink things and might instead grab Occam’s razor to dissect all of the ridiculous and neurotic mediocrity that passes for sensibility these days.
