My friend had told me to “Watch it! It’s soooo good!” a while ago, and I ignored her because, well, I didn’t have the time. Then this spring I found out I was slated to work at a camp involving Series of Unfortunate Events and so I figured, what do I have to lose?
Sleep.
I stayed holed up in my room and watched this show as often as my schedule would allow, sometimes forgoing sleeping to do so.
I was struck to my core from the beginning with such intrigue and desire to just know if everything would be okay. It was a show where I kept hoping Lemony Snicket’s narrating and the theme song were wrong. That each episode would have a happy ending. And time and time again it didn’t. Still I just had to keep watching because I wanted these characters (who I had grown to love so much) find joy and peace. I even went as far as to accidentally spoil the show for myself because I was worried about one of my favorite characters (Fernald.) Overall, the color palettes, acting, and plot were astounding.
Also Neil Patrick Harris was The Best and I absolutely thought he nailed the part of Count Olaf.
In conclusion, I love this show and am so glad I had to watch it for work. Best time I spent bingeing since I watched Umbrella Academy.
