Acting mostly good and casting was so promising as a whole but the movie seemed to be a mess, as if there wasn’t a clear vision behind it. The female characters in particular suffer from poor writing/taste that strips them of agency. Why add the exorcist-style possession scenes if the character is not possessed? Why make there be real plague when the plague is supposed to be the vampire? What was exactly going on in the graveyard anyway in the strange necrophilia scene and why did the bodies need to be burned? Also the film, which I saw in the theater, was so dark that you simply could not see the monster or settings in many scenes. And the cgi rats meant to gross us out were just silly. I kept longing to be watching the silent film. The monster is supposed to be equal parts disgusting and attractive to work as a vampire but there was no attraction here. This was not a worthy remake and I had such high hopes.
