These are not easy times. Reading this was a path through those times and hits very close to our current world. I love the Gamache people - I love the settings. The complexity of these two plots meant I had to pay close attention. I find that very relaxing. And in our reality there is little hope. Things move quite glacially, so when a novel can actively bring about solution in a few hundred pages, I will take it.
