Overall a good show with an interesting plot line! However, parts of it are a bit questionable.
I really like this show as it had me hooked after each episode, love the idea of the keys and the past, but some characters and scenes were questionable.
—SPOILERS—
When I first started the watching, most of the lead characters were unlikeable and it took a while for me to warm up to them. For example, Kinsey, she made some reckless decisions throughout the show but I never seemed to properly warm up to her how I hoped. Kinsey’s character did progress throughout the show but I feel like it wasn’t convincing enough to be blown away like some other shows. Acting was good but at times there were a few awkward scenes with other characters.
Tyler was a good kid most of the time but he also made some questionable decisions some times that were completely ignored for the rest of the show. This was confusing as he had no consequence for most of his actions.
Bode was my favourite character as he gave the show some enlightenment from its otherwise constant gloom. His first introduction made the show interesting, but it was sad when the rest of the show seemed to focus on the teenage kids and leave him out completely even though he was the first to find the keys. However, his character development could have been better as he did not seem to be emotionally disturbed from any events. For example, the traumatic scene of him hiding with Kinsey seemed to have absolutely no affect on him.
The mum... was a bit of a nothing character. She was a bit of an empty character who I felt no connection with. She was always wandering around and I felt like she had no real purpose as she didn’t have much connection with her kid’s lives and what was going on in the plot line. Her character wasn’t developed enough for me to love as she was unexplained.
Highschool teenage drama started to take over the show in the middle and it became less about the keys. Excessive amounts of teen highschool drama that is shown in every other show could have been avoided. I get that most teens would want to watch that, but some of the scenes were a bit awkward and hard to watch. The friends were a bit of a filler with no real purpose.
Sam. At first Sam confused me as I didn’t know exactly where he stood. His character at first was just a bit brain dead and you couldn’t tell what was going on from his facial expressions. However, after his backstory I fell I love with the character and felt sorry for him. Although, another plot hole here is that we never find out what really happens to him after he turns into a ghost. Is that the last we hear from him? I hope he comes back next season!
Dodge. One of the best characters in the show. Acting was believable and played very well. However, some actions had no intentions and were not explained well or at all. Overall a good character though.
I still have many questions about the ending of season 1. Such as if Gabe was real at any point in the story and what happened to him, or if it was Dodge the whole time???
Overall, apart from these debatable parts of the show, I really thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it for a good pass time!
