An excellent movie that is historically accurate, has stunning cinematography, and is extremely emotional in a way that I wasn't expecting. Because it depicts a period of history that the rest of the world has long wanted to forget, this film astounded me in so many ways. Because it is based on the actual narrative of a Palestinian girl from 1948, it illuminates the horrors that the Palestinians experienced during the ethnic cleansing. the stroy of Darin Sallams mother, tells a stirring and heartrending true narrative. This is also the tale of thousands of Palestinians, as told to Darin's mother, who lived through those incidents and told her daughter the tale as a child. A tale that has been forgotten and obliterated.
It tells the story of a young Palestinian girl who experiences the horrific Nakba events of 1948, when roughly 700,000 Palestinians were driven from their homes and forced into exile.
When this topic is avoided by the media and western films, whether it's because of bias, their own political agenda, or the perceived "complex" nature of this event. This film depicts the earliest atrocities and traumas that Palestinians experienced throughout this period; this is history that we were not present to see. The film offers only a brief glimpse into the Palestinian catastrophe, yet it conveys a very potent message. As we speak, Zionists are still ethnically cleansing Palestinians and violating their human rights. I salute Netflix and the film makers for making this accessible to all. Spread the word about this to everyone you know and let's keep raising awareness. free Palestine!
