This is about survival. It feels real because domestic violence and abuse simmer under the surface. Madness, psychotic episodes and maternal love are threaded together in a way that is both believable and heart rending. There is redemption too…the hard road back to independence and emotional freedom is attainable for Alex and for Regina. I found their relationship inspiring. Nice touches, like giving back the cashmere sweater right at the end. This series moved me to tears at various points and made me think how little these big subjects are dealt with in general on tv. It is all about what lies beneath the surface and what is barely perceptible to most people.
