On page 291 Hannah writes..Nixon had sent the National Guard in to stop a peaceful protest at Kent State less than a year ago. When the smoke cleared, four students were dead and dozen wounded.Nixon did not send the national guard! Ohio governor Rhodes sent the guard in at the request of the mayor of Kent. The demonstrations had been not been peaceful and the ROTC building was burnt to the grand as “ protesters” kept fire fighters at bay. The shootings were tragic and , in part, due to emotions being out of control. I would expect the facts would be checked before sweeping statements are written.
