The Suicide squad revives DC in a fashionable and appropriate manner, and James Gunn plays the premise to its full potential.
The suicide Squad features some of the most dangerous criminals, who are sent to a search and destroy mission by the government.
The previous film was a disaster, with low character building, poor acting, an even worst story, and to avoid any violence, had a stupid villain. The cast partially worked, and none of the characters were played like they should have been. This version, on the other hand, says "Hell with you" to the 2016 version, and defies every crucial aspect which was used to make it, and turns it to the extreme opposite. Which a whole new star-studded ensemble cast, the film goes haywire with the material, and it seems to work perfectly.
There is plenty of never-ending comedy, which manages to let out some hard laughs most of the time. It felt natural most of the times, and when it didn't it was even more fun.
The stars were amazing in their roles, and their presence really lit the stage. The new characters removed any element of the 2016 version which might relate with this one. The story was changed, and was not so amazing, but there were twists which made it worth the while. There was no sign of predictability, and the film was thrilling throughout.
This film ripped the 2016 version in half, and fed it to King Shark in terms of the gore. It was detailed and not for everyone, but also really fun. bad guys ripped in half, exploding people, decapitations, people molten with energy (literally), stabbings, and of course people being eaten. The film doesn't hold back an inch to deliver the violence, and delivers all that can be possible in a superhero movie.
Again, defying the laws of PG-13, the film also doesn't hold back on profanity. Though it gets offensive, it also feels more realistic. Like they are CRIMINALS, and they are in plenty of danger! why wouldn't they swear?
The plotting was uneven, but it was crucial for the fun elements of the film to work. If everything made sense for the film to progress, it would have cut out lots of comedy and action.
All this combined, The Suicide Squad is a very major improvement to the horrendous original, and boasting a stellar cast, loads of gore and comedy, delivers what it should have 5 years ago.
