Do we want to build? Or destroy?
When you create something off an existing IP, you are giving the Fandom hope. They get exited to see more of a story they fell in love with. Little do they know it's not about their story at all.
It's about the female power fantasy, it's about an over represented minority, it's about lore breaking characters, it's about modern audiences.
When you do these things one at a time, it can make for a great story with subtle differences that make viewers think.
When you stuff it like an undersized turkey, you leave no room for the story. Your left with a bunch of half baked characters all pushing for their turn to spill out whatever political garbage you spoon feed the public.
Your not subverting expectations your subverting public opinion and real change.
Differences are the spice of life. But like spices we don't just dump a crap load in and say it must tastes better and anyone who says different doesn't like spice.
