I usually don’t do movie reviews… but oh my does this film deserve all the love. I love how it is not afraid to tackle topics that many kids movies avoid. Many complain that it is not suitable for children but I think it’s perfect for them because it shows kids it’s normal to feel these emotions. We shouldn’t be shielding kids from topics like these. So what if a girl has a period, it’s normal, there is nothing wrong with periods (Also it only mentions periods twice, turning red is not about just periods). This movie has quickly become my favorite Pixar Film, it made me smile, laugh, and cry. I wish I could have had this movie when I was growing up and going through puberty because this movie made me feel so seen, and it would have been so helpful at the time to know these emotional are normal and are nothing to be ashamed of. This movie is not about disobeying your parents and sneaking out of the house, it’s about a girl growing up, navigating her emotions, and her relationship with her mother. Thank you so much to all the amazing females at Pixar who made this movie possible. Such an amazing movie for any young girls, or any girls in general (But don’t get me wrong, boys can enjoy it too. I have guy friends who loved the movie. Turning red is about growing up, something every human does, so anyone can enjoy it). First movie where I really felt seen.
Also Pixar, don’t ever shy away from these topics. Your movies have always had deep meanings behind fun concepts. This is what makes your movies so great.
