I don’t understand how or why the ship was allowed to crash on earth being a deep space research ship that was tasked with collecting life. No moon or mars base check in before reaching earth no security patrols or satellites? It would seem whe hails failed around mars the ship would have been blown up. Most importantly the ship was not designed for atmospheric flight also . So better don’t leave glaring plot holes and ignore basic science
