In the first part of the first episode the storyline was interesting but it quickly became over-complicated, confused and ultimately weak. The characters were weak and several including the protagonist - played by Jenna Coleman - were incredibly annoying and unlikeable. The supporting characters were filled with your stereotypical villager personalities.
The worst thing about the drama was the sexism and no, I'm not referring to misogyny, quite the opposite. Misandry. The protagonist was obsessed with the idea of men being paedophile rapists and whilst this was deliberately how they wanted the character to come across, I think it was reflective of the filmmakers' deep-rooted attitudes and beliefs. Throughout the three episodes statements, about men having sex with underage girls, toxic masculinity and Violence Against Women & Girls were referenced. Every male character was portrayed as being less intelligent; less tactful; insightful and competent than the women. Every female character especially the ones in a position of authority were portrayed as the opposite.
Quite simply, if every sexist stereotype, remark and behaviour about the male characters were instead directed towards the female characters, then this series would not have been broadcast.
