I just came from the cinema. I feel that Romulus is firmly aimed at the 'kids' here and does not have the sophistication of previous Alien movies.
Really the street Brit attitude does not work in space. We are not in south London now. The acting by the Brits is simply not fitting in for me as more at home as a soap series.
The prime directive of a long abandoned ship and the original droid acting as a scientist (as did fassbender previously), to create a formula that would change mankind for the benefit of 'The company.
There was a disconnect in the story as there were captured facehuggers in the lab but further information on the previous crew or aliens that abounded the ship. In fact, one was a queen but the half-bodied droid did not elaborate. Catch phrases from previous films such as 'you have my sympathies' and get away from her you bitch' were damp squib and corny. Nothing will ever hold Ripleys venom with that one.
The chimera that was born of the girl after she injects herself with the juice (somehow feel that this represents a certain other substance we know of) resemble closely the humanoid giant in Prometheus. For me, it's too fast moving and needs to slow down to create more tension. All too in your face, and the sets very complicated looking.
The film ends as they all do - into cryo after an impossible battle involving jettisoning from the cargo bay. For all those simpering how good it is- you were paid to say that, or have no critical thinking and appreciation the history of Alien. ,Back to the drawing board on this one
