This movie brought nothing new to the table.
I suppose it must be nice to dust off a good ol’ familiar character and slap a new name on it.
Ryan Reynolds played the character of Ryan Reynolds perfectly. Zoe Saldana was an empathetic, smart and supportive True Love Lost, and Mark Ruffolo was a dusty but charming jerk who realises he is a Good Guy Dad. Deep fakes aren’t ready for Catherine Keener, and whoever synced up the voiced lines to the deep fake wasn’t ready either.
For the theme of the movie, they didn’t really try to explain their time travel.
(Handwaving) Wormholes! … Science!
Given the screen time of an emotional outburst or two, we know the Very Important time rules are Very Important.
The protagonist, however, is Very Importanter.
Looper, Star Trek 2009, Begin Again, and Spy Kids all had elements cut and paste together to make this pretty but not at all riveting film.
Jennifer Garner was in it, too. She’s nice.
Two stars for the casting of Walker Scobell as young Reynolds, and for lightsabers.
