I have never written a review for anything in my entire life, not a movie, restaurant, game etc. But Spiritfarer is beyond deserving of a 5-star review. The brilliant minds that created this game took a huge spin on greek mythology and made it into something so personal and breathtaking. When I first downloaded it I thought it was going to be something similar to animal crossing, but with a darker twist haha. But I was dead wrong. By the time I finished the game I had probably cried about 7-8 times, and not because some cute animal was dying, but because the dialogue and experiences that are expressed through the souls, or “animals”, on your ship hit so close to home and are anything but surface-level. I was thoroughly impressed at how unfiltered and realistic the interactions were, it definitely makes the game 10 times more sentimental. Every animal(soul) was once human, and as you dive into their last journey with them, you unravel the stories of their lives and give them final closure as they near their end. Spiritfarer definitely gets one to think, and shows a new perspective on the beauty of life and the value of memories. Definitely, one of my all-time favorite games, which says a lot.
