This is a simple book about a girl lying about not liking lima beans out of fear of others opinions, coming down with a case of the stripes, and being rid of them once she is true to herself in the end.
I find it quiet laughable that some people are being "traumatized" by this book. Myself, along with many others 90's kids grew up having had this read to us at home or at school. My children are 5 and 7and neither of them were scared by this book. I even asked them what they thought of it and what they learned from it, and my 7 year old said "you should just be yourself!" and my five year old's response was "do not lie and bad things will not happen"
I am an autistic 25 year old and I was not negatively impacted by this nor were my children.
if your children are being traumatized by the image of a girl with rainbow stripes on her, I cannot imagine the turmoil they face seeing the rainbow colors everywhere in this day and age.
