So I decided to finish the game and it was better than I gave it credit for. The game picks up heavily after the first area. The dog was not worth getting in fact it was more of a detriment in stealth situations and was poorly implemented. Story is great, character personalities are great, and the game is not afraid to approach moral situations. Gets buggy in the second half of he game which is a downside. Game also thought I killed/stole from innocents in the end when I only took from bandits who attacked me.
