I bought 2 copies of this book to make sure I got to read it sooner than later which wasn’t the case with Butcher’s previous novel. But, even so, it took me longer than expected as others in the family borrowed both copies. The story unfolds accelerating with intensity as danger closes in on the young couple. The scenes with cartel killers are chilling making one anxious about turning the pages, but drug runners aren’t the only threat. Large hunting sharks, deadly poisonous cone snails, giant land crabs, crazy machete man and the not always predictable ocean coupled with an overmatched small police force pack this thriller with surprises and lethal twists. There are several moments when I couldn’t see how certain characters could survive - but I was wrong. Surprising and satisfying with an ending I didn’t see coming. The author is a great story teller and his latest novel would make a good movie or mini series. Highly recommended
