I understand that company bosses feel the need to step down from their ivory towers and get dirty. I understand the need for them to hide their true identities to allow them to see how the real world and real people work.
What I don't understand is why the disguises are so ridiculous that it defeats the purpose of what the bosses are trying to achieve. Instead of hiding their identities, the disguises shout it out.
Then there's the hard luck stories - working three jobs to put food on the table, elderly relative to support, overlooked for promotion, line manger is <insert trait here>, etc... And there's the holiday, cash payout, promotion, opportunity for the chosen few.
