Sowell reminds us to be skeptical of popular conclusions and offered reasons for policy around us. In the same vein, a lot of Sowell’s assumptions and anecdotes call for skepticism too… cherry picking foreign country examples and historical data. Regan good, Roosevelt bad, businesses will act right based on market forces even though we need laws and enforcement. In all, this book does explain a lot of basic economic concepts very well but it is somewhat questionable as to whether the amount of right wing “free market” propaganda poison is worth the small dose of clear economic theory explanation that could be gotten else where.
