Turgid and depressing
Well acted, good cinematography but the plot had no beginning or end. A 'slice of life' which consumed years of the principal character's lives. The characters did not grow, did not reveal anything we did not already know, did not find any solutions to their problems from which we may learn. They simply gave up on each other and wrote memoirs about their self-imposed, self-indulgent, miseries.
If the film serves any purpose then it may be a reflection on America today; a world where psychiatry and maybe psychology has no solution but to keep trying. And keep the 'client' paying the extortionate therapy bills.
If that's America today, then God save America.
