This movie MIGHT be a 3 or 4 star BUT.. I gave it a dreadful 2 stars because we walked out after 1.25 hours; there was no way we could endure another almost 2 whole hours of the agonizing slow pace of this movie. Though many people gave its cinematography exceptional praises, I thought I might lose my mind if I saw ANOTHER still shot of mountains, water creeks, fields, skies, and frame shots of how much in love Franz was with his wife. I GET IT ALREADY. Yes. They’re in love! Yes! BEAUTIFUL scenery..I just didn’t need to see it for 30 minutes of the first hour (sight exaggeration). And the “artistic angles” of several scenes seemed like he was trying too hard (several odd close ups, quick cuts, blotchy, etc). I’m sorry to those of you who absolutely loved this movie.. I’m just not getting it (perhaps because I bailed too soon?). I generally LOVE movies that tell a story from those times &/or true stories, inspirational movies (so looking forward to seeing 1917, Burden, etc).. this one simply let us down. When it comes on TV, we’ll MAYBE fast forward and attempt to finish and see if it deserves more than 2 agonizing stars! Good luck, folks! 😬
