Not as thrilling as "Khan" but still enjoyable. I was always fascinated by the Genesis project as a kid + bar the odd, dated effect, the film has aged quite well. Both in a technical + storytelling sense!
Those old film's feel more emotive + Human than many of today's, artificial blockbuster's. Gosh, I'm getting old!
And I was alway's more of a Star Wars fan, back in the day. But I've been viewing some of those old Trek film's for the nostalgia boost. They're an entertaining watch + have some interesting nuance's that I missed as a child!
It seem's to me that this film is about family, re-birth, death, risk + sacrifice? One man's creation is another's doomsday weapon? Do you choose co-operation or conflict, emotion or logic to grow, prosper + live? Depending on one's own conscious orientation?
Mixed in is the typical, stiff, Trek humour!
It's a bit hazy on the Spock bit. Is it his Soul, Spirit, Life-Force essence, ego identity or marbles as McCoy say's, or it his whole consciousness which is stored in the cranky but loveable Dr? And why don't the other's who die on Genesis have another shot?
It get's surprisingly dark, involving Kirk's son David, too. But highlight's include, Genesis, the mystical Vulcan world, C.Lloyd or Doc Brown as a Klingon villain, a kinda cute, elfish Vulcan woman named Saavik + a right on message about going beyond protocol to save a friend. Sometime's you have to risk everything in order to appease the Soul!
Without attempting to take short cut's in order to play God, or rather than life, it may be destruction which you find?
All in all. Deffo still worth a watch!
