This represents a portion of Christian Nationalism. It can not be used as a proper representation of all or even the majority of those who might associate with that label.
Though this is a very real subset of the group, those who want to maintain power are most likely using this as a scare tactic. Yes, some in that group are trying to gain more control, but that's mainly because they aren't the people who currently have it (and, in my opinion, that's a good thing unless proportional).
In reality and despite the negative connotation put on these two words by those attempting to promote a narrative, Christianity is only authentic when it is welcoming and looks to Christ as an example, and nationalism is just love for one's country when compared to others. Someone would need to completely ignore the underlying ideals they claim to hold dear to somehow make it about them and their worldview; and doing so should functionally remove them from falling underneath either label (they can't claim to be something and then not support the founding mission objective).
