I have not read the book, so I had no expectations for the film, but I am about 30 minutes into the film, and not sure I'll make it to 40. WHY do filmmakers insist on making their characters "high school graduates" and then cast actors that behave and look like 20-somethings (or even older?) The three main actors in this film are NOT even remotely believable as seventeen year olds. Had the characters been written as college graduates, that would have been much more believable.
On top of that, the personality of Lina in the movie is absolutely insufferable. There is no way that a girl-woman who acted this way IRL would have guys fawning after her or adults pandering to her every insecurity.
The setting is beautiful though, and if I continue watching, it will be for the Rome of it all.
