I stuck with this film for about 30 minutes and had to give up. It comes across as an American fantasy Hebrides, with everything and everybody looking much too clean and tidy; Blackhouse cottages had open peat fires, so were very smoky and sooty, and they usually had earth floors. As a Scot myself, the lead actors sound like they are speaking something approximating a Scots private school accent, when it would have been more authentic to coach them to speak with a Western Isles accent. The best thing about it was the scenery, but the cinematography doesn't even do that justice. I don't get the rave reviews but then I don't get why Outlander was such a hit, so maybe just not authentic enough for me.
