A total disappointment. They seem to be trying to channel Ken Russel in what they fondly imagine to be outrageously daring pantomime. Russel did, at least, have a sense of humour. Instead we have a poor person’s limping Versailles but without even that much historical accuracy. The dialogue lacked any wit or pace. The constant use of ‘I did not’ and ‘I will not’ etc. To try to invoke 18th century speech was embarrassing and irritating. You could say the same of the sound effects/music and the overused bizarre camera effects. Crude, clumsy and unfunny. Instantly forgettable.
