I am assuming that this is a love it or hate it kind of movie. And those who love it are probably a huge Roman Polanski fans. This movie just did not cut it for me, and I am a huge Johnny Depp fan. The acting was terrible by the majority of the supporting cast. What bothers me the most is that even in the time setting that this movie is supposed to take place in, no rare book collector or dealer, would smoke cigarettes around rare books worth millions of dollars!!! 🤦🏻‍♀️ The cheesy piano scores and campy angelic music are so bad that instead of adding to the mood of the film, it’s distracting and annoying. The camera work is clumsy at best. There is no excuse for the inadequacies of this movie. This film reeks like dirty socks with the expectation that Johnny Depp’s star power (like a splash of patchouli) is going to cover up how bad this movie stinks.

I’ve read almost the entire book series. I understand that when a book is adapted to a tv series there are some changes that have to be made, however they made too many changes. They changed Joe Pickett’s personality, he did not have rage issues, constant flashbacks to his childhood, or talk to his dead brother. Marybeth constantly waving a shotgun around was ridiculous 🤦🏻‍♀️, and they changed Nate too. Never mind that they changed his race, that doesn’t bother me, but they changed his personality as well. Nate in the book is far more stoic and aloof, he would not have pulled his gun out waving it around and he didn’t use a compound bow. He’s hiding out so he would NOT have been selling custom arrows, and he did not burn off his finger prints. Even if he had, he would not be telling some cute little female cop that. Marybeth does not have a law degree nor is she a lawyer. April and Sheridan are not the same age, and they were not in the same classes at school. I don’t understand why they take a book series that is so wildly popular, and then totally mutilate the book and characters. There’s a reason the books were popular, why are you screwing with the formula?! They did the same thing to the Longmire books, and took out all of the wonderful humor that made the books so fantastic. If you’ve read the books, save yourself the frustration and disappointment.
