Not the worst imagining of Pratchetts books but far from the best. I thought I’d slipped back in time to the ‘80s with the neon steampunk styling. Actors were fine (Sam Vimes especially) but the concept is deeply flawed and will alienate many Discworld devotees. As has been already mentioned, no Colon and Nobbs (sounds like a cop buddy movie) was a significant error and the rebranding of Lady Sybil was a missed opportunity as she acts as a perfect foil for Sam in the books but here is too much the action heroine. Introducing Carcer (a murderous psychopath from Night Watch) was an odd choice, surely the pettier, more venal villains might have served as better subjects? I don’t particularly object to them playing around with the timeline (Carrot WAS there well before Detritus and Angua) but Carrots character should have been closer to the original, the naive (adopted) son of of Dwarf miners with an encyclopaedic knowledge of all the obsolete City Ordinances. Cheery really could have done with being an androgynous Dwarf as opposed to what we saw on screen but again, not a terrible portrayal. Trying to bring to life such a well-loved series is always going to be tricky and you’ll never please everyone but with Pratchetts fan base as big as it undoubtedly is (and globally it’s vast) you'd have thought with the potential for world-wide sales, they’d have sailed closer to the Vimes Ankh Morpork we all know.
