I just watched your 40th Anniversary episode. I laughed, cried, smiled, cried happy tears...CBS Sunday Morning is part of my weekend routine, and here is why: My parents watched your show early on. I remember, as a kid, sort of making a face when they turned the tv to Channel 2 a few minutes before 9:00. I was thinking, “Great...more boring news...” All I wanted to do was find cartoons. As you can surmise, back in the day (?) we only had 1 tv, so I was at a loss. Nothing to do but munch on my bagel, and wait for those laborious 90 minutes to end. The thing of it, is that, I sort of got used to hearing the voices of CBS Sunday Morning. As I got older, the stories and topics addressed intrigued me. My mother would laugh uncontrollably at Bill Geist’s pieces. I figured, if Mom thought it was funny, then it had to be truly funny. My Dad sat with a serious, grave expression when you aired videos of war and unfortunate events happening around the world. I think he was in awe of both the event itself but the reporters and photographers who were bringing it to his television screen. They both loved it when you interviewed a celebrity —- be it a singer, actor, musician, artist. They felt almost privileged that you were allowing them to take a peak into the life of someone they admired from afar. As it is said, we are a product of our environment. Habits (hopefully good ones) become ingrained into our daily lives. I learned from my folks (both of whom are gone) the significance of keeping abreast of newsworthy topics and timely events; and In doing so, I have kept my Sunday morning ritual alive. The rest of my family watches it, as well. Just a refreshing way to kick off a Sunday (and a peaceful way to end it with the moment of nature!). I thank you all for an enlightening and educational 40 years and wish you all another successful and fun-filled 40. Thank you for ‘listening.’
