I’m giving it 5 stars even though I thought it was more of a 3 . Why the extra stars? To make up for the salty crocs in the 1 star section who were either too stupid to watch the trailer before buying a ticket or - perhaps more likely - didn’t actually see the movie at all but made a pact with their “feminist” victimhood pals to run the movie down. It is blatantly obvious from the trailers that the movie features strippers, nudity, sex for money and violence so if that’s not something you can handle ... don’t watch it, it’s that simple folks. I’m not exactly into strippers and sex workers myself but we live in a world with many different types of people and lifestyles - it’s a story. Not necessarily designed for men who want to get off either, in fact the women were the tough guys in this movie. It was not a bad movie at all, actually pretty good. The acting was good, it started off promising, it was funny in places but I thought it could have been more action packed and probably should have ended a lot sooner than it did. Throughout the movie you’re left wondering if it’s going to be a Cinderella ending or something more along the lines of cold hard reality when the circus is over- will he stay with her or turn out to be spoiled little jerk? I’m not going to give that away but let’s just say that just when I thought it was about to get a whole lot more exciting it just seemed to give up and limped along for the final half hour until the end when it went down like a wet fart. Still worth a watch - but only you’re able to appreciate a movie without it triggering your own insecurities and body image issues.

I usually find musicals to be boring and tiresome but this movie was one of the few exceptions. The songs are short enough and far between enough not to be irritating. The scenery was magnificent too.

When I first heard about this movie I wondered why it wasn’t coming out in cinemas and now I know why. The opportunity to create a hilariously funny blockbuster has sadly been squandered with this movie. The movie catered more toward child humour than adult humour and while I think Jack Black was good for the role there were so many missed opportunities to be funnier and more appealing to the adult audience. The child actors, I’m sorry to say, brought down the quality of this movie. Their acting skills need a lot more polishing before getting into movies and throwing them in too early could be detrimental to their future acting careers. It’s a shame that more known and experienced child actors weren’t used for the movie instead and don’t even get me started on the parents who were plain annoying. I’d give it a 2.5 star rating, this movie had so much potential, what a shame it was wasted.

I’m not sure how so many people misunderstood what the movie was going to be about. The previews are pretty clear that the movie comprises the storylines of different lives upon that piece of land, even going back to prehistoric times. Pay more attention to the previews people before going to see it. This movie was brilliant for those who can keep up. I guess some people just don’t appreciate history or life before their own existence. If you’re a Forrest Gump fan you’ll at least have some understanding of how this movie pulls together.

Take away Gaga and Joaquin and you have nothing. I knew music played a big part in the movie but didn’t know it was a musical and as much as musicals suck, that might have been the only saving grace for this movie because literally the only entertainment it held was watching those two sing. Other than that I would have had more enjoyment watching paint dry.

I wasn’t expecting this movie to be so good. Disturbing but thought provoking. Demi plays Elizabeth Sparkle, a woman who only sees her fading beauty and judges her worth unfavourably and decides to order “the substance” that helps her to transfer a part of herself into a new person who is younger and supposedly more beautiful. In the process, she loses herself as her other self and takes more prominence. As others have mentioned the move is beautiful and grotesque yet very much relatable to many people who have grappled with loss of identity and living up to a certain ideal. It is not for everybody but I believe this movie would be more appealing to those who are academically inclined and those who have a good understanding of the psychological aspects. I suspect the movie sailed high over the heads of the majority of those who gave it only one or two stars.

Didn’t anyone learn anything from the crappy sequel? The charisma and beauty brought forth by the late Brandon Lee of the first movie cannot be replicated. What on Earth made them think they could do better? I’m all for making remakes of original movies that needed an update. But just like The Crow should never have had a sequel, it should never have been remade either, it takes away from what the first and original had to offer.

I don’t understand the hate unless people were expecting something action packed and gory. Cooper was a creepy piece of work, I felt that there could have been more about his background and the crimes he committed but the focus of the movie was his strategic efforts to evade to police and the suspense

A beautiful and haunting masterpiece. Stunning NZ scenery is breathtaking, superb acting and the Maori warriors were mesmerising and beautiful. A glimpse into Maori culture and history. I absolutely love this movie. The only problem I have with this movie is that no cinema has it given it the session times it deserves and some aren’t playing it all which I think is disgusting.

Does anyone ever read the 1 star ratings and think to themselves that nothing could ever satisfy these people? Lol. Brilliant movie. It might not me exactly on point but still a great movie and worth watching.
