A Tale Of Unearned Love, Friendship, and Glory.
I don’t know much about the original Arthurian legend which this movie seemed to be adept from. I had high expectations going into the theater to see this one since it had high praise on Rotten Tomatoes. I have to say, I am mostly disappointed. The movie started fairly strong with mysterious set-ups and nice production design, then the story just grew weaker and weaker. All the parts that are supposed to be exciting, the quest of the knight, the lust and seduction, the mysterious red fox in the woods and the unexpected interlude, all turned out to be stories with no meanings. This young man, though handsome, did nothing to earn the trust, respect, love, and friendship offered by all the people and creatures around him. Throughout the entire movie, there’s no one “a-ha” moment where you can peak into the inner world of the characters to see what drives their actions and emotions. It’s just a long chaotic dream with no ending and makes no sense. You could argue that this movie is not supposed to make sense since it’s just a legend after all, but a good movie should be able to tell a story. This one certainly doesn’t.
