IMO the best Vietnam War novel written. The author himself served with a Marine Rifle company. I believe Mr Roth had but one novel in him but it is one hell of a good one. This literary work deserved a Pulitzer.

Like his "Epitaph to a Dog" this is an early window to Byron's
genius. One that would burn so brightly and leave us all too soon.
