The sea beast is shamelessly copied from How to Train Your Dragon movie/series. Not just the plot but even the Red Bluster looks a replica of Night Fury with changed colours. I can't believe that the idea was given a green light. Even though it is a copy of the said movie, it fails spectacularly on every front. Spoilers ahead.
I know a lot of people think that it is a 'woke propaganda' and I kinda agree with that but that wasn't really an issue for me, it was the copied plot and the stupid and boring storyline for me. But just to add to the propaganda thing, when would the writers understand that black and white aren't the only races, if you really want to include POC then please add those from multiple races not just black and white.
Here are the things that made me write this review - I never thought that I'd say this but the voice acting was terrible. I like Karl Urban but his voice didn't fit the character's. Maisie's character starts off with mixed speech like 'fair travels, me swabs' but by the end her language is completely changed and it becomes perfect so obviously they didn't think details like character consistency or speech consistency matter. Maisie was a terrible character anyway - unlikeable, rude and annoying. Then there's the storyline where Jacob turns against the man who was like a father to him, who saved him and took care of him and taught him pretty much everything he knows, I really hate such stories where loyalty means nothing. He did not even apologise or thank the man. Ugh! They could have done something different there but nope, they just had to go that route.
What made me even more furious was when in the end Maisie says, 'no ship would ever sail the Dragmarr again and the mysteries beyond would remain undisturbed.' What a sad way to end the movie where no one would explore anything. I know it's a movie for children (even though it doesn't feel like one because of the violence) but is this the message that it wants to teach - not to explore.? I wish I had skipped this.
